On the 13th November in years gone by Leeds have been in action against Yorkshire rivals Castleford and Featherstone in the league and Salford in the Regal Trophy. ON THIS DAY in 1983 Leeds were at home to Castleford. The teams had already played each other already in the season and on that occasion Castleford had managed an outstanding 54-4 win over their Yorkshire rivals. Since that game the Loiners lost a further three games, but were coming into this game on the back of a win over Blackpool in the John Player Special trophy. Veterans of the side, David Ward and John Holmes did their best to take revenge on Castleford with a try each but it was not enough to secure victory. David Creasser, who was the team’s leading points scorer added one goal but Castleford inflicted Leeds’ fourth home defeat of the season, with the final score 28-10. ON THIS DAY in 1993 Leeds were knocked out of the Real Trophy by Salford in their first game of the competition. Despite winning their opening two games of the season, Leeds’ form had taken a dramatic slip, with just win out of their next seven games. In the fixture prior to this Kevin Iro had been the Loiners only try scorer during their 35-6 defeat against the touring New Zealand side and Leeds were looking to improve on last seasons performance in the Regal Trophy when they had crashed out to St Helens in the first round. In this match Kevin Iro was once again in try scoring form, touching down for one and Alan Tait scored the second, but despite two goals from Simon Irving Leeds were out of the tournament, losing 21-12. ON THIS DAY in 1994 Leeds played Featherstone for the second time that season. The teams had played each other in the second game of the campaign and Leeds were the victors in that fixture. Following this the Loiners had lost only two league games that season and were coming into this game on the back of a three consecutive wins. Richard Eyers, Esene Faimalo and Alan Tait all scored one try apiece and Ellery Hanley added a brace of tries. Featherstone though pushed the visitors all the way and crucially Francis Cummins was on target to land five goals to seal the 30-28 win.
