Offload is Rugby League Cares’s acclaimed men’s mental fitness programme that utilises the experiences of professional Rugby League players in coping with pressure and challenging situations to help men manage their own mental health. Offload has already helped more than 2,000 men tackle issues around mental wellbeing since its launch in the North West three years ago. The programme has been given backing from Leeds Rhinos hooker Brad Dwyer, who has spoken about his own mental health issues and how opening up and speaking to others helped him deal with them. Now the Rhinos star has pledged to help people going through their own battles by pledging to support the Offload programme. Dwyer said: “I think it’s so easy to underestimate the power of opening up. I never thought it would help me, but it 100% changed my life for the better.” Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be running Offload fixtures in two ‘squad’ sessions at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Thursday evenings from November 26, with five places available at each session. Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be running Offload fixtures in two ‘squad’ sessions at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Thursday evenings from November 26, with five places available at each session. Each 45-minute fixture will be hosted at the TryZone in the North West corner of Emerald Headingley Stadium from 6.30pm to 7.15pm and 7.45pm to 8.30pm. Leeds Rhinos Foundation Community Development Officer Sam Horner said: “We at Leeds Rhinos Foundation are very pleased to be delivering Offload and we will be running many sessions throughout the city of Leeds over the next few months. “There will be lots of opportunities to be involved in this brilliant programme, which will help people manage their mental fitness and the general pressures of life. We are grateful to have the support of Brad Dwyer, who is keen to work with us to help the project be a success. We will also welcome more guest speakers, including Rhinos legend Keith Senior, who will share some of his life experiences with the group.” Offload fixtures are available for open-aged men (16+) and are free to attend: the programme runs for 10 weeks blocks normally with different presenters each week speaking about a range of issues. This programme will run for 4 weeks up to Christmas and the normal 10 week blocks will start in the new year for different participants. Squad members can participate as often or as little as they feel comfortable with. The fixtures are delivered in a ‘no-pressure’ situation and all information shared at fixtures is treated in strictest confidence within each squad. RL Cares Head of Community Emma Goldsmith said: “We are thrilled to be able to deliver Offload fixtures at Leeds and are looking forward to making the same positive difference to the lives of Rhinos fans as we have seen at Salford, St Helens, Widnes and Warrington. “Offload has a fantastic ability to not just change lives, but to save lives as well. I’m sure all the men who sign up to Offload at Leeds will enjoy taking part. “We know that lots of men in Rugby League communities are struggling in these very challenging times and Offload can help equip them with the techniques and skills needed to develop and maintain good mental wellbeing.” To sign up for Offload at Leeds Rhinos, or for more information, please contact Leeds Rhinos Foundation Community Development Officer Sam Horner on 07780 676132 or email [email protected] The post Brad Dwyer to support new Offload mental fitness programme appeared first on Leeds Rhinos. via Leeds Rhinos https://www.therhinos.co.uk/2020/11/13/brad-dwyer-to-support-new-offload-mental-fitness-programme/ TV Aerials Tadcaster

Through the tournament’s innovative partnership with Movember and Rugby League Cares, the double header will be branded the Mental Fitness Match. The men’s quarter final at the world-famous home of Liverpool FC could potentially feature England as well as the scheduled England women’s team match against Canada women. The Mental Fitness Match will take place during Movember’s annual fundraising campaign in November 2021 and will raise awareness of the outstanding work the organisation will have delivered along with Rugby League Cares by harnessing the global scale and reach of RLWC2021 to make a difference to communities in England. Earlier this year, RLWC2021 announced the tournament would be working with Rugby League Cares to support men’s health experts, Movember, to deliver their ‘Ahead of the Game’ programme in Rugby League towns and cities beginning in Leeds in October. The programme will still aim to reach 16,000 young athletes and parents combined as well as 360 coaches. The programme will also benefit from the inclusion of the incredibly inspirational Jimmy Gittins, former Wakefield Trinity and Dewsbury player who was paralysed is an accident in 2002 when his neck was broken in two places. RLWC2021 Mental Fitness Ambassador, Robbie Hunter-Paul holds a long affiliation of championing mental fitness within Rugby League. Hunter-Paul said: “The programme is designed to deliver impactful training to the next generation of stars. To have started that journey now a year out from the tournament just goes to show what is possible in the next 12 months and beyond. “Rugby League’s culture has always been about ‘looking after one another’ but this training also shows how important it is to look after your own mental fitness and I am extremely proud to be part of the brilliant group of trainers delivering the sessions.” Jon Dutton, RLWC2021 Chief Executive, said: “Our objective from day one was to stage a unique tournament which not only delivers breath-taking action on the field but also leaves a lasting and positive legacy in communities. “At this particular moment, mental well-being is a priority for so many people and I am grateful to Movember as well as Rugby League Cares for their outstanding contribution in helping realise our ambitions. The double header at Anfield will focus everyone’s attention on this important topic. “I would also like to thank the great and loyal servants of the game – past and present – for their commitment to the ‘Ahead of the Game’ initiative which delivers important mental fitness education not just for young players but also to their families and coaches. It is something we are understandably proud of.” RL Cares, Head of Community, Emma Goldsmith said: “In these challenging times, Rugby League Cares is proud to be working with RLWC2021 and Movember to deliver Ahead of the Game. Our partnership is helping us keep as many members of the Rugby League family mentally fit and well, both during lockdown and beyond as we all look ahead to a post-pandemic 2021 and what will be a very special day for everyone at Anfield next year.” Meanwhile, Tracy Herd, Programme Manager at Movember, added: “With all that 2020 has thrown at us, young people need our support now more than ever. “We’re pleased to be able to give them the tools they need to help build mental resilience and thrive during these tough times, and hope the Ahead of the Game programme will teach skills they can lean on for the rest of their lives. “It’s exciting to be able to look forward to live sport again in 2021 with the RLWC and its bespoke Mental Fitness Match, which along with delivering a spectacle in its own right, emphasises the importance of looking after each other and our own mental wellbeing.” The ‘Ahead of the Game’ programme has been temporarily paused due to the latest COVID-19 restrictions, RLWC2021 will provide an update on its resumption in due course. ON THIS DAY in 1983 Leeds were at home to Castleford. The teams had already played each other already in the season and on that occasion Castleford had managed an outstanding 54-4 win over their Yorkshire rivals. Since that game the Loiners lost a further three games, but were coming into this game on the back of a win over Blackpool in the John Player Special trophy. Veterans of the side, David Ward and John Holmes did their best to take revenge on Castleford with a try each but it was not enough to secure victory. David Creasser, who was the team’s leading points scorer added one goal but Castleford inflicted Leeds’ fourth home defeat of the season, with the final score 28-10. ON THIS DAY in 1993 Leeds were knocked out of the Real Trophy by Salford in their first game of the competition. Despite winning their opening two games of the season, Leeds’ form had taken a dramatic slip, with just win out of their next seven games. In the fixture prior to this Kevin Iro had been the Loiners only try scorer during their 35-6 defeat against the touring New Zealand side and Leeds were looking to improve on last seasons performance in the Regal Trophy when they had crashed out to St Helens in the first round. In this match Kevin Iro was once again in try scoring form, touching down for one and Alan Tait scored the second, but despite two goals from Simon Irving Leeds were out of the tournament, losing 21-12. ON THIS DAY in 1994 Leeds played Featherstone for the second time that season. The teams had played each other in the second game of the campaign and Leeds were the victors in that fixture. Following this the Loiners had lost only two league games that season and were coming into this game on the back of a three consecutive wins. Richard Eyers, Esene Faimalo and Alan Tait all scored one try apiece and Ellery Hanley added a brace of tries. Featherstone though pushed the visitors all the way and crucially Francis Cummins was on target to land five goals to seal the 30-28 win.
